Healthy Hound Playground was conceived by Brandon Power in the summer of 2012. After spending 18 years in the management consulting industry, he decided it was time for a big change. Brandon grew up with a passion for dogs and always had a keen interest in these special creatures and enjoyed training his own rescue dogs. It was time to turn his passion into his career.
Brandon wanted to build a facility where he and his wife, Shayda, would feel comfortable leaving their own dogs. It was their belief that dogs are entitled to some core services, whether socializing in day care or boarding overnight.
After investigating the pet boarding service industry in our area, he felt he could offer the market something new and innovative by combining some key features that were not currently being provided in tandem, along with a high level of creature comfort and a superior customer experience. Such features included regular outdoor potty breaks along with 12 hours of continuous cage-free dog day care, spacious kennels, and 24/7 onsite attendants. His goal was to provide these services and keep the cost to customers at a competitive price point.
Brandon’s dream became a reality when Healthy Hound Playground opened its doors in March of 2013. The original 6,200 sq ft facility boasted 23 large 4 ft by 6 ft canine cottages (kennels) and 2,000 sq ft of dedicated day care space, subdivided into two large playrooms.
The quick growth of the business surprised Brandon and Shayda and they realized that if the opportunity came along to expand the current facility, they should seize it.
In the forefront of their desire to expand was the desire to grow their customer base responsibly. They did so by increasing the footprint of the facility, ensuring that their guests have ample space to run, play, and socialize in day care, and also maintaining their spacious canine cottage size so that the dogs are always comfortable. They have also kept staff to dog ratios consistent, ensuring that their safety standards are consistently met.
Since 2013 Healthy Hound Playground has expanded twice into two adjoining suites and now boasts 15,000 sq ft that provides 75 large, built-in kennels and 4,500 sq ft of dedicated day care space divided into multiple playrooms.
Healthy Hound Playground has also maintained a nearly 5 star rating on Google, Yelp, and Facebook. It has received recognition from both Washingtonian Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine as the Best Dog Day Care and Boarding Kennel in the area. It has also received the Angie’s List Super Service Award for maintaining a perfect “A Rating”.
The combination of an expansive facility, highly trained staff, continual supervision, and a common love for all dogs makes Healthy Hound Playground a truly unique business in our industry.
Our dog LOVES LOVES Healthy Hound. She practically jumps through the door from the second we get there so she can start playing with all her friends. I really like that the dogs get walked every few hours so they can go take care of business outside and the staff is great across the board. We will never take our girl anywhere else.

My dog and I both love Healthy Hound Playground! Everyone who works there is wonderful and clearly loves dogs! My dog is a rescue from a rural kill shelter who had not had a lot of contact with people or other dogs. Everyone there is so kind, and their facilities are well-maintained and perfect for my dog's socialization. Also, they walk your dog outside at regular intervals. I highly recommend Healthy Hound Playground.

Outstanding place, we have two pups that start getting excited when I'm sitting at the light to turn in, superior staff and extremely accommodating. Highest of recommendations! The best that we have ever used.

This is such a wonderful facility!! My Cinnamon absolutely LOVES coming here to spend the day playing with her canine friends!! (She loves the human ones, there, too!) She's now a regular bi-weekly visitor, and is even starting to understand when I tell her "we're going to Healthy Hound today" and starts wagging her tail!! Brandon and his team are just terrific, and I know Cinnamon is in very good hands. After a day of playing, she comes home exhausted, healthy and happy -- JUST the way I want her to be!!! I absolutely would highly recommend Healthy Hound Playground to other canine parents!!

Go and see for yourself! I started researching daycare facilities several months before I got my puppy (that's how much I care!). I found the Healthy Hound Playground far superior than other facilities in the area. The staff are excellent - from the front desk to the owners - extremely professional, knowledgeable and caring. The facility is large and spotless. They also offer training classes. I took my first class yesterday, and already see improvement! The most important thing? Lilly, my German Shepherd puppy, can't wait to go and play! And when I pick her up, she's happy and ready for a long nap! That says it all! Thank you Healthy Hound Playground! Keep up the great work!

The "Party Inside, Potty Outside" philosophy at HHP is hugely beneficial for dogs like ours who lived for a long time in a shelter situation and were not properly potty trained. Our dog was still not housebroken at 7 months old when we adopted her and training her to potty outside was a very challenging process. Based on my experiences with my other dogs at different facilities, I am certain that a week long stay somewhere without the same commitment to taking the dogs outside would have caused her to backslide. (Not a fun way to "celebrate" coming home after vacation!) The diligence of the HHP staff in taking the dogs outside ensured Lark kept her hard-earned "house manners".

After 14yrs with another kennel we tried HHP. I was a little nervous but as soon as we walked in I knew my pups were in good hands! It is a very friendly clean environment and the staff were very understanding and gave me a personal full report when we picked them up. I really appreciated the fact that they took beds, toys, and leashes. At pick up they returned everything just as it was. It is the first time we have picked up our dogs and they weren't over excited to leave! Thank you so much Brandon and Shayda!!! I'm considering doing doggy day camp now!

My mini-goldendoodle Teddy has been going to Healthy Hound anywhere from 1-3 times per week since he was 6 months old. As soon as we turn down the street he starts barking and howling. Teddy is now 19 months old and loves his doggy day care. He is excited when he walks in and he is exhausted when he leaves (usually fast asleep by the time we reach 28). We have used the playground for boarding as well and it has been a great experience. The staff and owners are friendly and always greet Teddy and I as we come in. As a first time dog owner I never imagined sending a dog to day care, now I can't imagine not doing that. It has become the highlight of his week. As soon as I tell him he is going to the playground he will follow me around the house, wagging his tail, until it is time to leave. Many times he will just sit in the car waiting for me!!!

Both me and my dog (Kacee) LOVE Healthy Hound Playground! I ask Kacee in the morning if she wants to go see her friends and she gets so excited! She is always happy to see the staff there and they are happy to see her too! She is even happier leaving then she is going in, and much more tried to boot! She has always been a little shy of meeting people on the street, but goes right up and loves the staff when she sees them. Healthy Hound Playground is not just a local business but a key part of my dogs happy life! Highly recommended!
